Rio Valley Charter School Independent Study Programs

Rio Valley Charter School offers three distinct Independent Study programs, providing flexible, personalized education for students in grades TK–12. Each program is designed to support students with individualized instruction, credentialed teacher guidance, and a structured curriculum while allowing for at-home learning facilitated by a home educator.

Lodi & Broadway Independent Study (Grades 6–12)
Our Lodi and Broadway locations provide independent study options for students in grades 6–12. Each student is assigned a credentialed teacher who meets with them weekly for one hour to provide instruction, assign curriculum, and offer feedback and grading. The home educator plays a crucial role in supporting learning at home, ensuring students stay on track and succeed.
Elk Grove Hybrid Independent Study (Grades TK–12)
The Elk Grove location offers a hybrid independent study program for grades TK–12. Students attend in-person classes twice a week, where they receive instruction and meet regularly with their advisory teacher. The school provides a structured curriculum, and the teacher is responsible for assigning coursework, grading, and academic support. On non-class days, the home educator supplements learning to reinforce student progress.
Each of our independent study programs is designed to offer the flexibility of at-home learning while ensuring students receive comprehensive academic support from experienced, credentialed teachers.
At Rio Valley Charter School, every student benefits from the guidance of a credentialed, highly qualified teacher. Our educators partner with each assigned student and their family to develop and implement a personalized learning plan tailored to the student’s individual needs, interests, and academic goals.
Teachers meet with each student and parent educator at least once every 20 school days to review academic progress, set goals, and discuss educational budgets. These meetings—lasting up to one hour depending on the student’s needs—are designed to provide support, encouragement, and direction throughout the homeschool journey.
The teacher’s primary role is to collaborate closely with parents to ensure the implementation of an appropriate and effective course of study. Together, they work to help students meet or exceed grade-level expectations and stay on track for high school graduation. Rio Valley’s credentialed teachers bring extensive experience and a strong commitment to customized, hands-on learning, empowering each student to thrive in a personalized educational environment.
